TIME-OFF

TERMS | BEST PRACTICES | EXPECTATIONS
PAID TIME-OFF

Paid time-off (PTO) provides our employees with flexible paid time off from work that can be used for such needs as vacation, personal, or family illness, doctor appointments, school, volunteerism, and other activities of the employee's choice.

SICK / FLEX
DAYS

Sick / Flex Days are considered paid time off and may be taken when sickness, injury, medical appointments, or immediate family emergencies prevent the employee’s performance of duty. Timely notification is required. An employee who must be absent from work because of illness must notify his or her supervisor, or must have the supervisor notified of that fact, at the earliest possible time. If the absence is going to be for more than one day, the employee must notify the supervisor of his or her status each morning, unless other arrangements have been made. The employee must leave a phone number where he or she can be reached during the period of illness. When an employee is absent from work due to illness for 2 or more consecutive work days, he or she must provide a doctor’s statement showing the cause or nature of the illness, or some other written statement of the facts concerning the illness that is acceptable to the supervisor.  This written statement must be submitted when the employee returns to work. An employee is not entitled to payment for any unused sick leave at the end of the year, or upon terminating employment.

WHEN TO REQUEST

We ask for 2 weeks of notice, but giving as much notice as you can will make it easier for your request to get approved. Make sure your work is under control and well managed at the time of your request. Be mindful of your tasks and deadlines when considering time-off and help plan a workflow for your responsibilities that will need to be handled during your absence. This will help avoid leaving your team feeling overloaded while you're away.

HOW TO REQUEST

Before submitting your request, talk with your immediate team to ensure there are no big conflicts with scheduling. Once you're on the same page, CLICK HERE to fill out the form. Not all requests for time-off will be approved. You will be notified shortly after submitting.

AMOUNT OF TIME-OFF

Time-off is allotted as follows:

One year full-time salaried employee: 5 PTO Days and 3 Sick/Flex Days.

Two (or more) years full-time salaried employee: 10 PTO Days and 5 Sick/Flex Days.

UNSCHEDULED ABSENCES

This occurs when an employee takes time-off without getting approval. Often times, time-off requests will not be approved if not submitted at least 7 days in advance. Unscheduled absences negatively affect the work environment and too many will result in termination.

HOLIDAY TIME

As a company, we observe the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

MATERNITY / PATERNITY

The State of Texas does not require a company to provide paid parental leave. However, up to 12 weeks of (unpaid) time-off is allowed if the individual chooses. For maternity leave, we provide 4 weeks of paid time-off. For paternity leave, we provide 1 weeks of paid time-off.

EXCEPTIONS

We are family at LSEC and we care about the well-being of our team. Exceptions to the policies above can be made for emergency type situations. However, the request form should still be submitted (even if filled out after the time-off has occurred). Self-awareness and communication is key as we build and maintain a healthy and thriving work environment.
